SEPS (Situation Effective Protection System) Self Defense
No two, violent/aggressive situations are ever exactly the same: there are always significant differences. The same person
can even respond differently in what appears to be the same situation, simply because of a difference in emotional state at
the time of the incident. Change the location from the street to a house, add in third parties, such as children or partners
and change the time to the middle of the night and a persons natural response will be totally different to the one they’d make
if they were on their own, on a crowded street during midday.

Comprehensive Self Defense
A self defense system to be truly realistic has to accommodate all these dynamics and more. Simply providing the same physical
solution to different aggressive and violent situations is simplistic and dangerous. I have been involved in martial arts for
over 25 years and know many techniques to combat a lapel grab however doing one of these as knee-jerk reaction could be an
inappropriate way to respond e.g. If I am facing a gang of Hells Angels, if a second attacker is holding a knife to my wife’s
throat etcetera, etcetera.
A comprehensive self defense system should teach an individual how to make a dynamic risk assessment of the situation and quickly
and efficiently determine an effective solution, which may or may not be a physical one: sometimes de-escalation is the premium
strategy, sometimes running away is etc. The situation determines the solution.
SEPS teaches the individual how to control and survive violent situations. We train to deal with situations involving: knives,
sticks, guns and improvised weapons (chairs, bottles etc), in locations such as your home (when standing, when on the ground etc),
in the car, in pubs and bars etc and when there other people you have a responsibility for present.
The system is based on current academic and military research involving aggression/violence and individuals decision-making under
extreme stress. Our techniques, come from in the field experience (those used successfully by civilians, law enforcement, security
and military personnel) and have been reduced down to the absolute bare bones – what doesn’t work is removed, what is superfluous
is cut back.
This leaves lean and effective techniques that are easy to remember and apply when placed under the extreme stress of a violent
situation.
Self Defense Skills
We teach skills rather than just techniques, which allows the student to rapidly change what they are doing to match the way the
situation (or even the fight) has developed.
Our awareness and de-escalation training is not simply a list of what to do and what not to do but instead a program that educates
the individual in how to make effective decisions. Simple lists containing such advice as ‘don’t walk down a dark alley’ etc, at
best state the obvious and at worst take away the individuals ability to think for themselves and promotes reliance on somebody
else’s thinking (which is non-situation specific).
In SEPS, you will be taught how to develop the correct mindset for the situation, including a fighting mindset if the situation
calls for engagement i.e. a fight.
This is one of the most modern approaches to fighting and self-protection available.
